Strand groups are the heart of Engage.
At Engage you’ll be part of a strand group where you will learn a model that will help you understand and teach the Bible. You'll meet each day in your strand groups to work on writing a Bible study or talk, which you'll present to your strand group at the end of the conference.
The strands align with those taught at the AFES National Training Event (NTE). Any strands you have completed at these conferences will be recognised at Engage and you must complete strands in order. During the registration process you can let us know which strands you have already done and you will be allocated to the next strand.
If you are a ministry apprentice or Bible college student, you can choose a strand that fits your current needs. This can be requested in the registration form and we will try our best to make it work.
In 2024 there is a new strand - 5B - on giving a Bible talk. This can be completed after strand 4 and in its pilot year will be limited to 12 delegates. The requirements to sign up include coming to Engage with your text selected and the Strand 1/2 model already completed, and with an opportunity in view to deliver your talk in your ministry context. Email us with any questions!
In Strand 1 you'll build the foundational skills to understand, apply and teach a Bible passage from the New Testament.
In Strand 2 you'll delve into an Old Testament passage and learn the Biblical Theology model that will help you teach the Bible to others.
In Strand 3 you'll learn how to understand and explore what the Bible says about any given topic by focusing on Systematic Theology.
In Strand 4 you’ll learn and put into practice a Christian ethical framework that will help you understand how Christians can approach ethical issues.
Developing a teaching series
In Strand 5A you’ll build on the strands you've completed and explore how to teach a book of the Bible in a sermon or talk series by studying one book of the Bible in detail.
Giving a Bible talk
In Strand 5B you'll learn the skills to deliver an engaging Bible talk including crafting and communication skills so you are more confident in teaching the Bible publicly in your ministry.
