WORKSHOPS
At Engage you'll have the opportunity to attend two practical workshops led by expert practitioners with years of ministry experience. These workshops are aimed at equipping you for Christian life and ministry.
Considering Gospel Ministry
James Hoey
The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. While we pray to the Lord of the harvest for more workers, how can we discern our own role in His harvest field? In this workshop, we’ll explore the what, why, and how of vocational gospel ministry. What does it mean to be in gospel ministry? What opportunities are available and what are the steps to enter into gospel ministry? How can I know if I am suited?
Devoted to Prayer: Why and How
Peter Adam
The apostles said, “We will devote ourselves to prayer and the ministry of the word” (Acts 6:4). Paul emphasized prayer, saying, “Night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers” (2 Tim 1:3) and “Devote yourselves to prayer” (Col 4:2). But why should we devote ourselves to prayer, and how can we do it?

Doing application well
Murray Capill
Often the hardest part of preparing and leading a Bible study is doing application well. We tend to be better at studying what the Bible says than at knowing what difference it should make in our lives. So, we end up only doing a small bit of application at the end. To help turn that around, in this workshop we’ll look at a whole range of tools for developing good application, and actually developing so much application we won’t know how to fit it all in!

Leading better Bible studies
Heather Reid
How much do you know about leading Bible Study Groups? What are the key practices that result in good Bible Study Leadership? What are some ways you can improve the way you understand and lead groups? This seminar provides some practical tips and insights to help you become more effective as a Bible Study Leader.

Evangelism: Harder Than You Imagine and Easier Than You Think
Dave Martin
Everyone recognises that evangelism is difficult. We will explore why it is so difficult and what we can practically do in light of those difficulties. On the other hand, we can overcomplicate evangelism too. We will also explore why evangelism is easy too and what we should do in light of that relative ease.

Preaching Ezekiel, A Look Under the Hood
Paul Grimmond
Paul will share some of his reflections and insights on the process of working on Ezekiel, thinking particularly about the issues involved in understanding the text and how you move from those issues to preaching in a way that connects with your audience.

Principles and Patterns of a Christ-Centred Children's Ministry
Ian Jones and Kirsty Creek
We want to equip Kids’ Church leaders and teachers to introduce Jesus to children, through the Bible, in loving relationships. In this workshop we’ll be exploring practical and engaging ways to run a Christ-centred Kids’ Church Ministry. We’ll also be looking at ways to care for and equip a Kids’ Church team.

Singing in Church
Andy May
This interactive workshop will help you if you're a song leader or musician in music ministry. We’ll look at a biblical framework for singing and worship, understanding the place of emotion and the importance of truth in helping your team and church in giving glory to Jesus through song.

World Mission, God’s Mission, Your Mission
Wei-Han Kuan
Why is a commitment to global mission critical for the health of any church and Christian disciple? What does this look like in a healthy and spiritually alive local church in Melbourne or for a committed follower of Christ seeking to follow his lead into missions? How can I tell if God is leading me to a global cross-cultural missionary work?

Youth Discipleship with Direction
Andrew Wort
We want teenagers to know Jesus and grow as His disciples, “presenting everyone fully mature in Christ” (Col 1:28). But how do we do this as youth leaders, especially when those we are seeking to disciple are going through all the changes that come with adolescent development? In this workshop, we’ll explore what directional discipleship looks like in youth ministry — in our weekly programs, planning, and how we teach the Bible.

Discipling Youth Through The Key Transitions of High School
Andrew Wort
This session is best taken after “Youth Discipleship with Direction” as it follows on from it.
The teenage years are when we ask and answer some of the biggest questions in life: who are we, why do we matter, what is my place in the world? This also includes crucial questions of faith in Jesus and their place in the church. In this workshop we’ll explore three key transitions that take place in the high school years: moving from age-based learning to regular church participation, from a family-based faith to personal conviction, and from school into adulthood with greater independence.
